It’s Time to Say Goodbye…

Aashi H -

Welcome back for the last time, everyone! Thank you all for joining me on this journey. As this project comes to a close, I would like to give out a few shout-outs to some amazing people who, without their help, this project would not be possible.

First, a BIG shout-out to Dr. Goodwin and Mr. Bushee for being my mentors through this project! Your insight shaped this project; your guidance and support have meant so much to me.

Another big THANK YOU to my office mentor, Dr. Kumar. Our hour-long brainstorm sessions shaped the trajectory of this project, and shaped it to be the way it is. Another shout-out to Dr. Laird, an accredited music therapist who walked me through the process of music therapy.

Thank you so, so much to everyone who filled out my survey over the past few weeks. Your responses have made this project a success!

And last but certainly not least, thank you to all of YOU! Thank you, dear readers, for your unwavering support, comments, and cheers, making me believe this project is possible!

Although I am sad to end this journey, this is certainly not the end. I hope to continue my studies in University, delving deeper into music’s effects on the mind. This project found a relation between the two variables, but the further question to explore is why this relationship exists.

I have learned so much through this experience, especially the importance of adaptability in research. I plan to carry these skills to the lab, where I can hopefully make these results widespread and be able to bring music medicine to everyone’s lives.

But if there is something we’ve learnt through this project, dear readers, it is to never underestimate the power of music. Keep listening to music you love!

Great work Aashi! I was curious, if you could continue your work at a university, what would you study next?

Hey Aashi, Congratulations on such an awesome project!! What is a challenge you faced and overcame through this research project? And what kind of advice would you have for future researchers facing similar issues?

Thank you for the question, Akshita! I would like to go deeper into the cognitive side of things. This research showed that music medicine has an effect in the short-term on stress levels for QSR employees, but I want to go deeper and see why this is a case on a neurological level. I would also like to see if some sort of device could be made to make music further accessible for all to experience these benefits.

Great question, Anita! The biggest thing I learned through this project is adaptability. At the beginning of this project, I wanted to study music medicine in a clinical setting, and I was struggling to find a site placement. However, I wasn't able to find one, and I honestly wouldn't have it any other way! My advice would be to go with the flow and continuously explore options. Never give up!
