Conclusion: Ad Lunam Et Ultra!

Kira A -

Hi everyone, and welcome back, for the last time, to my space-faring journey! For this week’s blog, I wanted to take some time to reflect on the research process and how it has shaped the past couple of months of my life.

To start, I would like to thank the people who helped me the most during this process.:

  • Mrs. Camille Bennett has helped to not only guide me, but also my peers through this project, ensuring that we are all aware of deadlines and requirements, and always encouraging us to achieve greatness. Her dedication and interest in our senior projects are truly inspiring and have pushed me to persevere through the inevitable ups and downs of research.

  • Dr. John Goodwin, much like Mrs. Bennett, has also acted as a mentor for me and a smaller group of individuals participating in the AP Research capstone program in conjunction with the senior projects. His knowledge and experience in scholarly writing have given me great insight into articulating the complicated topics I have researched to create an easily comprehensible report and presentation.

  • Dr. Muhammad Farooq has been a great voice of guidance for the theory behind my project, helping me to understand higher-level topics with ease and inspiring me to continue learning and conducting research in the field of orbital mechanics and engineering.

  • Mr. Akash Joseph has been a constant source of reassurance throughout this entire process and has given much of his time to guiding me in the right direction for my research design. He has also provided me access to the necessary resources (MATLAB, FreeCAD, Bambu Labs 3D printer) to achieve my final results.

Beyond the people who have supported me in this process, I wanted to thank BASIS Ed for providing me and my peers with this unique opportunity for research in our senior year of high school. This process has allowed me to apply theoretical concepts to real-world problems and get a taste for the impact that aerospace engineering can have on the future of humanity. Not only that, but this project taught me discipline and dedication, values that will help me to achieve even greater things beyond high school and in my higher education, where I hope to build upon the Moon Bound Mission and see humanity establish a presence beyond Earth.

Lastly, I want to thank those of you who have read any of my blogs and especially those of you who were able to attend my presentation. I hope you all enjoy learning about and watching this process half as much as I enjoyed doing it. I also hope that I have inspired some of you to pursue similar fields or interests in the future, and most importantly, to pursue your dreams :).

Hey Kira! It's been really cool seeing how your project has progressed since Week 1! If you had any advice to give your past self before starting this project, what would that be? :)

Hi Kira! As you look foward beyond this project, what are the most important skills and technogies you've learned about that you envision using in college research (and beyond)?
