Project Title: Designing an App to Educate Women on Self-Defense against Sex Crimes
BASIS Advisor: Beth Wake
Internship Location: Paradise Valley Community College
Onsite Mentor: James Loop

Project Abstract

This project's main goal is to design a prototype for a mobile game that educates women on how to defend themselves in different situations. I plan on building a simulation-like game with choices of how a woman could navigate an attack. My site placement is at Paradise Valley Community College with professor James Loop. The main question of this project is how to make a simulation game interactive enough so the users can learn how to defend themselves. I wanted to do this project because I want to help a women who live in circumstances where they don’t have access to proper self-defense education or classes, such as rural villages or small third-world countries. The hoped result of this project is a prototype that ends up working well with detailed graphics. In the future, I hope to send my prototype to companies to develop it into a marketable simulation game.

  • Conclusion

Hello everyone! I cannot believe my senior project is over. I still remember walking into a small classroom and sitting with my professor trying to build a simple outline, and now that simple outline is a functioning game. I have learned a lot from this internship like using Photoshop, unity, and coding in c#. Working... Read More

  • Week 11

Hello everyone! This week has been more hectic than usual. I have been editing my past levels for any bugs and other UI issues I might have. I have found more appealing fonts and buttons which I can use for presentation purposes and they look perfect!. I have also been building levels 5-9, which basically... Read More

Hello everyone! This week has been less hectic than usual. I have been editing my past levels for any bugs and other UI issues I might have. I have been trying to find more appealing fonts and buttons which I can use for presentation purposes, however, I have still not been able to find the... Read More

  • Almost at the Finish Line!

Hello everyone! I built levels 5-8 this week and am currently working on levels 9 and 10. The animations are completed and look good! While they don't look perfect, they get the main action across which as of now seems fine and if I have time, I will try to edit the animations. As of... Read More

  • New Changes!

Hello everyone! This week was extremely hectic and productive. We made many new decisions concerning the game story and I would like to share them with you. Instead of relying solely on animations, the game will have many smaller mini-games such as multiple choice questions, spotting the irregularities, and dragging items to a bag for... Read More

  • Photoshop!

Hello all! This week has been pretty successful as we have finally figured out how to do the animations. The solution is Photoshop! To use Photoshop to rig, we have to first get out the character's body parts into different layers. Each layer is just one body part. After dividing the layers, the biggest step... Read More

  • Animations and Rigging

Hello Everyone! This week I am still working on my animations. I would say that I am struggling with them because of some issues with creating the weight factor. To explain this further, the weight factor is what makes the bones have a more realistic effect. To wrap it up, it makes the avatar move... Read More

  • Week 4

Hello everyone! This week has been mostly rigging out my characters' bodies for all my levels. Rigging a body is pretty much creating different movements for a character. A rig consists of a series of joints that mimic actual bone structure and provide natural pivot points between bones. The character’s mesh is connected to joints... Read More

  • Week 3!

Hello everyone! It has been a while since I have written but thank you for keeping track. As we mark this third week, there have been multiple accomplishments. I have finished my game-level scene. I will be adding a picture of it down. All the buttons of the scene are working and I have also... Read More

  • Senior Project Week 2!

Hello everyone! I have accomplished a major milestone in my project this week which is completing the game menu. The game menu consists of a dark unsettling city background with a slight grey tint to give it more dimension. I have also created the game title which is SheFights. I went online and found a... • Senior Project Week 1!

Hello everyone! I have accomplished a lot this week. I have built my game outline on paper with the scenes and characters I want. I have decided to use the Unity Game Engine which is a platform using C# to create 2D and 3D games. I have decided to build a 2D game with several... Read More
