Week 8: Cool-Off Week

Krish S -

Data collection is finally done! I have collected sentiment scores and gender bias scores for all 120 film reviews. Man it feels so good to be done. Unfortunately, that’s the only thing I did. In my defense, it did take some time putting these reviews into a CSV file and then running both models on it. I then had to input the results into data tables, which was extremely tedious.

Now, I will create 6 graphs: Sentiment Differences for NYT, Sentiment Differences for The Guardian, Sentiment Differences for WSJ, Gender Bias Scores (M+F) for NYT, Gender Bias Scores (M+F) for The Guardian, and Gender Bias Scores (M+F) for WSJ. Just a reminder that I am not comparing trends between outlets. These outlets represent trials (and more trials reduce error). Anyways, I know you probably expected more from me this week, given that all I had to do was run the film reviews through sentiment analysis and gender bias analysis. Once I create the graphs, I will have a better understanding of what the results look like. Right now, I haven’t even bothered to look for trends. There’s just been a lot going on this week, and I didn’t want to add another burden of research work to it. So, I decided to “cool off”. Anyways, I will leave the results as a surprise for next week. Stay tuned!

Hi Krish, do you have a specific tool or software in mind for creating the graphs, or are you still deciding how to best visualize the results?

I think I am just going to use Excel to create these line graphs. To visualize the results, I will be looking at trends in the data and whether/how they evolve over time.
