Sixth Update

Vanshika M -

This Saturday will be the last day of watering. Last blog I talked about what I will be measuring and what the next steps of the methodology are. Of course there are some errors in my methodology, such as the fact that I’m only using three plants for each group. Triplicates can be enough to show statistical difference; however, there is a chance that it is not an accurate representation of the population. The ‘too much water’ group have their last watering Friday and the ‘control’ group have their last watering Saturday. The ‘less water’ group has no more waterings. I will cut three leaves from each plant this Sunday. I want to see the effects that each condition has on the roots of the plants and the number of rotting leaves. This will tell us about the survivability of the animal. Fitness pertains to survivability and reproduction. I will be planting them in the same pots with the same type and amount of soil. After that they will be watered every 7 days for three weeks. After the three weeks, I will be able to measure the variables I talked about in blog post 5 and conduct statistical analysis to check if there is any set difference between the conditions. With what we have now, there should be a statistical difference between the ‘too much water’ and the other two, because the ‘too much water’ group no longer has leaves to propagate. Therefore, Aloe vera is not ‘fit’ during overwatering conditions.
