Back again!

Drag Performer 8 had one of the most negative sentiments overall concerning politics and drag intersecting yet the most positive sentiment toward drag being seen as a heuristic experience. In other words, the performer believed drag did not belong in politics however did agree with the fact that drag represented more than just the art of cross dressing and entertainment and has the ability to help younger LGBTQ+ children express themselves.

Similarly, Drag Performer 9 felt the same way about the last 3 questions and represented questions 9-11 to have the most negative sentiment. Which if you remember was similar to Drag Performer 2 as well.

Lastly, Drag Performer 10 had mixed negative and positive sentiment with a heavier side on the negative sentiment.
Overall, another point to mention is that most performers expressed strong frustration or sadness (sentiments around -0.10 to -0.30) when it came to concerns about sexualization of youth in drag story hour with the most prevalent themes being ‘mischaracterization’ and ‘colonization’ of the drag community. And overall there was highly negative sentiment (especially Q9) from trans performers and their allies (e.x., Performer 8: -0.45, Performer 10: -0.45) which also plays into that bias aspect we talked about in previous blog posts.
Come back next week for the concluding post to go over everything this past few weeks!
