Propranolol Blog Post 6

Today I was able to get access in the lab and get started on making some of the solutions as stated last week. I wanted to get a good baseline to compare the other co-solutions with before I tested the others ones in order to measure any improvement in solubility. In order to resolve this dilemma, I utilized deuterated water also known as D2O, also known as heavy water, which has the same hydrogen emission lines as regular water. I ran 5 trials with the heavy water with varying ratios between the solvent and the solute, which is the drug Propranolol. This was done to determine if there was a trend which shows the ideal concentrations of both the solvent and solute which would demonstrate the highest solubility. The trials were set into 5 different test tubes that were 5 mm in circumference and as mentioned before were organized according to their concentrations in ratios of 1:1, 2:1, 3:1, 4:1, and 5:1. I predict that the best results for solubility will be reached at the 2:1 or 3:1 ratios because there is enough solvent to sufficiently dissolve all of the solute but not enough so that the concentration of the solute is rendered as miniscule. In other news, I was not able to fix the code for the T-test yet due as I need to get familiar with a new library in order to use some of the functions there in my code. I have made some more progress in learning the new commands but work is still ongoing there, but I will meet with my professor again to get their insight into how to resolve the issue with the code.
