How has this experience impacted your thinking about future education/career choices?

One of the reasons I decided to conduct a research project on past films is my future in filmmaking. Compared to others, I wanted to go into filmmaking pretty late. While some had discovered their passion while they were in middle school, I realized it was mine during high school. I had always felt behind. To catch up, I have been teaching myself bits and bits of filmmaking. Conducting a research project on film is another way for me to feel like I am catching up to others.
However, researching isn’t as satisfying as I would have hoped. While watching movies and creating stories is exciting, researching is extremely dull. Researching takes the fun and enjoyment out of watching a film. Instead of living in the moment and briefly analyzing different parts of the movie, researching forces me to stop enjoying the movie and constantly think about my research question and how the film helps answer it.
Throughout this research paper, I have realized that I want to avoid researching film. Although I know researching patterns, effects, and narratives is important, this experience has made me realize that researching isn’t my cup of tea.
Quick Update: This last week has been pretty slow for me. I only managed to watch the Boston Strangler last week. I have three more to go: No Man of God, He Went That Way, and Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman. I should be done with data collection in two weeks. After that, I should be able to start analyzing and drawing conclusions. During March, I will be out of the country for three weeks, so being ahead is extremely helpful for me to stay on schedule.
