Film Review No.2

Jasper L -

Quick update: I finished my research paper within the last week. I just need to edit it and create a presentation.

I will also be reviewing two more movies in this blog post. More specifically, I will be reviewing Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeywoman (2021) and Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman (2021). These two movies are by the same director. In my opinion, these two movies are the worst movies ever.

Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeywoman (2021) follows Aileen Wuornos during her early days. The whole movie was written extremely confusingly. I am still unsure if the film is based on an interview with Aileen Wuornos or just inspired by true events. Wikipedia states that the film is fictionalized. However, the characters were alive once upon a time. The overall storyline of the film wasn’t good and neither was the acting. According to one article I read, most of the actors weren’t professionals but instead the producers of the film. The movie was extremely boring and painful to watch. The same thing is true for Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman (2021). This movie is a bit better than the Aileen Wuornos one but not by much. It follows Ted Bundy’s killing spree and the police’s hunt for him. While the characters and storyline are a bit more in-depth, the movie is still incredibly dull and a mess.

Out of the eight movies I watched, Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeywoman (2021) ranks last place. Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman (2021) only does a bit better at seventh place.

It seems that both are made in a similar manner (based on their titles). Do you believe the fact that they are more fictionalized and that you cannot pinpoint the origins of the Aileen movie, that your conclusion is impacted. You looked at romanticization for serial killers, and it seems that since these two movies were so considerably boring and terribly done, would these movies really be considered a possibility for romanticization? Do you believe that serial killer films that are less professionally done still something to worry for?

I do think that serial killer films, less professionally done, are something to worry about, as they can lead to false information. False information is always dangerous. However, I don't think it will affect my conclusion too much, as these decisions made by Aileen Wuornos's filmmaker is made intentionally so that Aileen is portrayed the way they want them to be portrayed.
