Project Title: Effectiveness of AI financial prediction algorithms in comparison to human investors BASIS Advisor: Ms. Ainslie Internship Location: Remote Onsite Mentor: N/A |
Project Abstract
With the increased usage of generative artificial intelligence in all facets of life, and the increased interest among the average population in exploring the financial markets for possible financial freedom, it is only inevitable that these two would cross paths. The enticing possibility of simply asking an artificial intelligence algorithm which stock to buy and getting an answer in seconds is promising. However, there has been no research conducted on whether or not this method of predicting the market is actually effective. While there have been studies that examine the current use of artificial intelligence in finance, they do not compare the performance of A.I. to another prediction algorithm. That is what this study will attempt to answer. The performance of artificial intelligence, when it comes to predicting stock movement, will be compared to the performance of all human investors on the market. This will be done by gathering a consensus prediction for a certain amount of stocks and comparing them to the prediction artificial intelligence provides. These can then be compared with a statistical test, in order to determine which one is more accurate. It is nearly impossible that either algorithm will produce predictions that consistently align with actual stock movement. Therefore, simply having a smaller difference from the real performance is what will be considered accurate. Finally, this can help with the exploration of new avenues of artificial intelligence in finance and provide assistance with answering key questions about which specific prediction algorithms are more effective, and how those algorithms can be enhanced.

Alright guys! Welcome back to another week of this incredible research journey. After around 7 trials of the 1 week time span, I have decided to conclude my data collection process and start going into the data analysis process. This is due to a multitude of reasons. It has been about 2 months since I... Read More

Welcome back everybody to the next installation of the weekly chronicling of my research project. So far, so good. There’s not much news in terms of the actual research process, as it is pretty repetitive. Trial 5 for the 1 Week data collection was completed this week. However, when it comes to the actual stock... Read More

Hey everybody! Thanks for tuning into another week of exciting updates for my research project. This week’s collection of data presented some new and unforeseen possibilities for a conclusion. It seems as though the humans are actually predicting closer to the real performance than the artificial intelligence. This is odd because, on the surface, the... Read More

Welcome back everyone! This was another week of riveting data collection. This Friday a collected the real performance values for week one, and collected the prediction values for the start of week two’s trial. Simply using the eye test, I could tell that the A.I. model had outperformed the human predictions in almost all stocks.... Read More

Hey everybody! Andrew checking in again. At the end of last week and the beginning of this week, I started my data collection process. I realized that the time frame I picked for the prediction mattered a lot, so I decided on two time frames that I could pick from later. Firstly, I chose one... Read More
