Week 10: Looking Ahead
Krish S -
Now that I’ve presented my data to you, it’s time to look ahead. What I mean by that is, it’s time to look at the future research that can be done on this topic. There’s honestly a lot of things for future research but I will only describe the two main ones I’m thinking about.
The first one is genre. Genre could have an effect on the results I obtained from my research. The film reviews that were run through sentiment analysis and gender bias analysis in this study were obviously not the same genre. This is important because sometimes the role a lead actor/actress plays varies based on genre. Also, critics may use different language to describe performances for different genres. Thus, future research can be done on whether or not gender bias in film criticism varies by genre. The second one is the type of AI model used. There are a lot of AI models out there that can quantify the language in film reviews. Because of this fact, I think that future studies should compare the accuracy of detecting potential biased language in film reviews. This would be especially helpful with AI becoming more and more applicable nowadays. It would be a complicated research project though if anyone wants to try it out. Anyways, that’s all I have for this blog post.
I shall see you all next week for the finale.
