Understanding the Effects of Media Sentiment on Stocks and Businesses
Hi again, it’s me and I’m back with a few small updates. Firstly, my code has been steadily progressing since last week. I’ve been running into a few errors specifically with getting the code to be able to also integrate sentiment analysis as well. I’m trying to do it this way so that going through the steps of data collection and synthesis will make it significantly more efficient for my future self. Otherwise, I have acquired my data set for the media sentiment around the products consisting of 300 articles — a 100 articles for each influencer product. Now, a little bit more of a life update, but I’ll be flying out to Boston next week for a Speech and Debate Tournament and I’ll also be visiting some colleges and touring them, so work on the project will be shelved for a little while, but I am still trying to get my data collection out of the way before that happens, and hopefully get a start on synthesizing. Getting back to my project, I’ve made a few small tweaks to my original methodology as I’m implementing it myself, such as the search query becoming more general to include a wider array of sentiments and more articles. These changes are something I’ll have to edit in my literature review and methodology, and I’m planning to get these changes done a little bit after both my Boston trip and data synthesis are over. Also, just as a little note to myself and a little timeline, but a new AI algorithm, similar to ChatGPT, called Deepseek has come out, and it’s done numbers on the stock market. Stocks like NVIDIA have tanked, because of how advanced DeepSeek is despite using much lower quality processing chips. This would be a really interesting thing to research and it could be a future area of research that could be addressed later. As much as I’d want to do that as well, I think my hands will be busy with my own research project and figuring out life and college. So, maybe I’ll keep that one in my back pocket for next time. But, anyway, that’s all from me this week. See you next week.
