Week 10: The Final Gown
Hello readers,
This week, I completed my final gown project!. After my prototype work, I had to learn how to navigate a much finer silk for the final gown. This came with some challenges with machine sewing, so at times, I resorted to hand stitching. Unlike the practice fabric I used for the prototype, this fabric needed much more careful handling.

One of the biggest adjustments from my prototype was deciding against using buttons or a zipper for closure. While I had initially planned to add these after seeing how the prototype fit, the delicate nature of the crepe silk meant these would have damaged the material and possibly the fit of the gown. Because the fabric of the final gown was much more flexible, I was able to not have a zipper or closure at all. Additionally, I did implement the changes I noted in my previous blog about the sleeve size and stitching. Overall, I am very happy with the final product. Although the process had many ups and downs, I am so grateful for the skills and knowledge I have gained through it.
I also want to thank those who made this project possible. To Ms. Fluitt, my college counselor, thank you for helping me balance this project with my other responsibilities. To Mx. Bustos, my faculty advisor, your guidance during the presentation steps of this process was deeply helpful. And to Dr. Liljesquist, my non-faculty advisor, I’m grateful for your academic perspective and help sourcing the perfect materials.
Finally, thank you to everyone who has followed along with my progress through these blog posts. Your support and encouragement kept me motivated through the challenging moments. Thank you for sticking to the story with me.
