Week 10: Final Reflections on My 3D Heart Model Project

Nishita K -

Hello and welcome to my final blog post!

As I approach the conclusion of my senior project, this week has been all about refining the final details of my 3D anatomical heart model. I’ve been meticulously polishing the structure, ensuring that every chamber, valve, and vessel is as accurate and detailed as possible. My goal is to send it off for 3D printing in the next couple of days. While there’s a chance it may not be printed in time for my senior presentations, I’m still looking forward to showcasing either the printed model or a highly detailed digital diagram to illustrate my work.

Reflecting on this journey, I can confidently say that it has been both one of the most demanding and rewarding projects I’ve ever taken on. As someone with no prior experience in 3D modeling, stepping into this entirely new world was incredibly daunting at first. Learning to work with advanced modeling software, navigating three-dimensional design, and applying anatomical accuracy—all while recreating one of the most intricate organs in the human body—has been a massive undertaking. There were moments of trial and error, frustration, and late nights spent adjusting tiny structural elements. But through persistence, curiosity, and a willingness to keep learning, I’ve managed to bring my vision closer to reality.

This past week, I also had the opportunity to deliver a mock presentation to my project advisor, Mr. Cioni. His insightful feedback helped me identify key areas for improvement in both the clarity of my explanation and the visual organization of my slides. I’ve taken his suggestions to heart and have been working on refining my presentation to ensure it effectively communicates the complexity and significance of my model.

I’ve attached a brief preview of my presentation materials (Figures 1 and 2), and I’m incredibly excited to share the final product with everyone soon. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey—it has truly been a transformative experience. I can’t wait to see you all at the senior project presentations!
