The Final Chapter, Week 3: “We’re in the Endgame Now…”
Rohit p -
I’m sure a lot of you have seen Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War and remember Doctor Strange’s iconic line: “We’re in the endgame now.” Since this really fits the final week of the senior project, here’s my progress towards Chapter 3 thus far.
I’m pushing through with the inking for this final chapter. This part of the story has many visual effects I need to draw, so I will be spending more time adding small details, such as flames, clouds, and even water effects (it’s hard enough to draw a moving solid, so imagine the difficulty to draw a moving liquid…). So with the amount of time left, I definitely won’t be able to finish the inking, but the chapter will still be out by the end of the week.
And I know you guys want to know more about the cover, so I’ll have you know that I’ve begun adding the base colors that make up Marcus’ character. Selecting the color scheme was an easy process since I just needed to choose between warm or cool colors – or, in other words, red or blue tinted colors. However, the harder part was picking which colors to use as shadows. Tackling lighting and shadows was one of my biggest challenges even before this project began, so I’m glad I could share my progress on it here. Rather than changing the darkness value of the color, I’ve been choosing different color hues to change the lighting atmosphere for my character’s hair, clothes, and skin. Here’s the Cover Art.
I’ve been a fan of the cover art on Japanese manga volumes. Series like Jujutsu Kaisen, Sakamoto Days, One Piece, and many more have such detailed covers. It probably won’t help if I explain it any more through words, so everyone can look at some of my personal favorites for themselves:
I hope to incorporate this kind of color contrast and intensity to guide the readers’ eyes and get them a feel for how the character and their personality will look like.
Well, we only have one week left. Chapter 3 will be out in the next and final blog post. Thank you for reading with me for these 2 months. See you soon!
