Teeth: Shoring Up the Final Project

Nico l -

Hey guys, another not so interesting week here. This week I will be going out to ASU again where I will probably be looking at a decomposition lab, which will be much more exciting in contrast to having to work on my final project over the next couple of days. Watching videos is fun but having to make them is not too exciting. I think that I am also going to redo the script a little to account more for the explanation of anthropology rather than just launching into forensic anthropology. I will say though that I enjoyed last week’s visit and I liked getting to handle a human skeleton, which is part of my original vision of visiting a forensic lab. The body I handled was an anonymous donation, and he had a diseased skull, of which I have attached a photo. I learned about the various things that Dr. Bolhofner currently does and has participated in in the past, and it is all pretty cool. Currently she is running the Sonoran Desert Decomposition Project again, this time in Prescott, and is working with the Maricopa county medical examiner on hyoid and thyroid area ossification and trauma, in order to have a baseline for strangulation. This week I intend to ask whether I can see any of the projects, as I would really like to.

See you in 1 week with a video draft.

Hi Nico, I’m very excited to see your first video draft. What do you think is the most challenging part of analyzing skeletal remains?

It's great to hear about how you are beginning to finalize your project Nico! Do you have an idea of how long your final video will be yet?
