Paint the Road to BASIS Mesa & See My Senior Project Presentation Saturday, 5/17
Hello everyone and welcome to my last official blog post!
I want to start off by thanking everyone for reading my blog posts each week. My purpose for this project was to educate and raise awareness, so to all my readers, I hope you were able to learn something new about self-harm or art therapy from my posts and found some inspiration to fight stigmas and spread awareness on mental health.
As for some final updates, I wrapped up my shadowy figure painting by adding colors and highlights to the lightning to emphasize the sharp contrast with the muted background. I also wrote artist statements/descriptions to accompany each painting. This will ensure that the message I want to convey is clear to the audience. Although I had some roadblocks, I really enjoyed the process of creating these paintings and am so happy with the results.
If you would like to see the completed shadowy figure painting, witness the doll painting in person, or read the artist statements to get more in-depth information on the symbolism behind each component of the paintings, please come see me present my senior project on Saturday, May 17th!
To end off my blog posts, I want to circle back to the beginning and share a quote from my inspiration for this project: Gracie Gold and her memoir. On page 311, she writes, “I’m not a trained mental health professional. I have no answers. But I have ears. I can listen. I can make sure people know that they are seen and heard. That’s something.”
Just remember, you can have the power to foster a judgement-free environment where people feel safe to seek the help they need.
Thank you all again for sticking around and I hope to see you on Saturday, May 17th!
