An Uneventful Week
Hey everyone,
This past week had a lot of issues that culminated together to basically erase any work for me do on my project this week. Firstly, since it was spring break the Southwest Student Research Consortium didn’t meet, and I didn’t meet with the Astronomy Association of Arizona. I already anticipated this happening, but then a big problem with astronomy reared its head. This whole previous week was extremely gloomy. It was raining constantly, and when it wasn’t it was cloudy. This is a major issue with astronomy because it basically results in no observations being able to be done. Because of the weather, the Gilbert Rotary Centennial observatory was closed, and I wasn’t able to do my work there. The variability of weather is one reason why having telescopes on satellites is extremely important because they can be used whenever we need them. Unfortunately, I, as a highschooler, do not have a satellite in space that I could use, so most of my work was not possible. All I could do this week was work on my assigned task for the Southwest Student Research Consortium, which is to write the introduction for our research paper. Since I’ve never done something like this before, it’s been difficult to get the tone correct and to concisely summarize what our topic is and what we are doing in our group. I do think I’ve got the hang of it though, and I’m close to finishing it.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture to share this week because I couldn’t get any observing done. I’ll try to include 2 photos next week to make up for it.
