Time is of the Essence
Going into this week, I knew that things were going to get hectic. With only two weeks left of this project and a presentation, machine learning model, and bumper prototype to finish, time was(and still is) not on my side. All I can do is work as efficiently as possible and hope for the best. Unfortunately, there is only so much work that can be done in half a week since I had a mandatory unrelated trip out of state on Thursday. Regardless, I was still able to make significant strides on the project.
Starting on Monday, I continued working on the machine learning model. Fortunately, this week, I haven’t encountered any major errors, so it’s been relatively smooth sailing. I was able to complete most of the code for the model, so now the task at hand is testing it and tweaking it to fix bugs and make small improvements to the code. Hopefully, this goes better than the previous few weeks have gone.
That brings me to Tuesday. Once the supplies came in to build the prototype, I got right to work. This prototype will be mostly composed of Styrofoam and a plastic Hoberman sphere, potentially with wood covering to secure the Styrofoam from irreversible damage, once I test the prototype. The main challenge with building this prototype is making sure that the Hoberman sphere stays secure within the Styrofoam while allowing for enough flexibility to expand and contract without compromising the foam’s structure and stability. In order to achieve that, I decided on carving out just more than enough space for the links in the sphere to collapse and expand. That leaves me with the ability to carve more space out if need be.
Wednesday was the last day that I could get any meaningful work done, so that’s what I did. The work on the machine learning model continued as the debugging had so far gone smoothly. While there is no definitive answer to how much coding and debugging is left in the model, I am undoubtedly in the home stretch. On the other hand, the bumper progress is going smoothly, and I presume that the bumper should be complete by the middle of next week.
Make sure to stay tuned for the FINAL week of this blog and project!
