Project Title: Animating Reality: A Fusion between 2D-Animation and Live Action Media. BASIS Advisor: Dr. Jennifer Parchesky Internship Location: Majestic Chandler 9 Onsite Mentor: Mr. Haydn Janus, General Manager Majestic Chandler 9 |
Project Abstract
Media such as Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse and Arcane have set a new standard of animation in Hollywood. This precedent involves using modern technology that is more advanced than that used 30 years ago. So, with these new enhancements in 2-D animation, couldn’t we incorporate this into live action? This project will be an experiment on whether 2-D animation can be incorporated into live-action media without disrupting the realism a live action film provides. The general issue in films involving animation and live action, such as Space Jam, is the difference of reality between the two styles. However, if animation can be used as a form of special effects to enhance the film, then it’ll maintain the level of realism within the film. This project will require me to create a short film and incorporate animation within it. My job at Majestic will provide me with insight into the methodology of films and the expectations from audiences when watching live action and animated films. If this project proves successful, it can be revolutionary for Hollywood and usher in a new wave of editing for live action films.
