Week 10: Back to ArcGIS StoryMaps

Joplin C -

Hello everyone!

This is our second to last blog post for the year, so let’s finish off strong!

Over these past few weeks, I have primarily been using ArcGIS to create all the maps that I need and all of the spatial analysis to come to a conclusion for my presentation. Now, it is time to turn it back all the way to the beginning of the project and take another look at ArcGIS StoryMaps.

I first began by uploading all of the maps I made in ArcGIS to ArcGIS online. To do so, I needed to convert the maps into a web map, which is a form of the map that can be then uploaded into ArcGIS online. Once that was done, I needed to link those maps to my ArcGIS StoryMaps account to be able to access them while I am editing the final product.

When I finished all of that, it was time to begin working on my final product! Unfortunately, this process was much more time-intensive than I originally planned it to be. It turns out that there is much more detail and a lot more dynamic features than a traditional PowerPoint Presentation. Combine that with the fact that I also had to manage the large number of maps in my presentation, and creating a StoryMap ended up becoming one of the more challenging experiences during my Senior Project.

However, I think that it is turning out really well, and once I get through all of the work to perfect the StoryMap, it will all be worth it in the end.

Unfortunately, that is all I have for now, and there is only one more blog post left. Stay tuned for my final update and message as we begin to wind down the year. See you all soon!
