Week 0: Introduction
Hi everyone!
My name is Chris, and I’m excited to share my senior project, which uses artificial intelligence(AI) to help detect early signs of lung cancer. My goal for this project is to create a model that can recognize patterns of early-stage cancer to assist doctors in diagnosis.
My interest in this topic comes from my past experiences using technology to aid in healthcare. In the past, I have created an AI-powered heart disease detector and lung cancer subtype classifier. My experiences volunteering at camps for those with disabilities have made me more aware of the challenges early detection and late treatment can cause. During this project, I’d like to see how AI can bridge the gap between technology and healthcare and solve real-world problems.
To guide my research, I’m working with Dr. Richard Chuang, a principal architect at Intel with PhDs in computer science and genomics. His expertise will be invaluable as I build and refine my model. I’ll not only learn about AI’s capabilities but also about the ethical and technical challenges that come with applying it to healthcare.
I’m especially excited to experiment with different AI models and test their accuracy in detecting early cancer patterns. Beyond the technical side, I want to see how AI can support doctors instead of replacing them, ensuring reliability and fairness in its applications. I look forward to sharing my progress. Stay tuned!
